CAF BACKS OIL RICH BAHRAIN'S SHEIKh SALMAN BIN IBRAHIM AL KHALIFA FOR FIFA PRESIDENT
The leadership of the Confederation of African Football have endorsed Royal born Bahraini Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa for FIFA presidency among five other contenders namely Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan, former FIFA official Jerome Champagne from France, UEFA's general secretary Gianni Infantino from Switzerland, and Tokyo Sexwale, the former anti-apartheid activist from South Africa.. This was announced last week Friday by the leadership of CAF after an executive meeting in Kigali Rwanda.
Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Khalifa |
The announcement came with mixed reactions because
two Africans are in the contest but many pundits are alleging oil money doing its job in the pockets and hearts of the Africans.
This is what CAF president Issa Hayatou told the media that, “If we decide to support Salman, is it a crime? Who can prevent us from doing this? (No sir it isn't, as long as he doesn't indict you like the PDP indicted Chief Olu Falae). This decision does not mean that all African countries would vote for him but it could really boost his presidency bid because Africa has the highest single voting block of 54 out of the entire 209 besides, Asia is totally supporting him.
Salman scaled through the fifa checks despite allegations of human rights abuses leveled against him by Bahrainis owing to his role in the 2011 massacre and brutalizing of protesters to suppress a pro-democratic agitation in his country.
Sheik Salman however has an impressive CV and may just be the right man for the job because Michel Platini was fingered in the FIFA scandal and is currently under 90-day suspension pending the full investigation into the £1.3million he received in 2011..
Keep your fingers crossed i'll keep you posted
