CASH CRUNCH!!! ASUU MAY SOON RESORT TO STRIKE AGAIN. PRESIDO CANT PAY FULL SALARY!!!

Strike is looming across the federal universities due to the inability of the President Muhammadu Buhari to pay federal universities the complete monthly allocation. Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have threatened to call the president to order after two months of incomplete salary. Eighty Nine Percent only of their salaries for the month was paid in December and to make up for this shortfall, the various schools sourced funds from other sources.

The agitations became stronger when the alert for January came in earlier this week and the said money was not complete. Several University Staff whom SPKB spoke to revealed their discontentment. University of Port Harcourt which is a big university and has several sources of income with a large staff population have not been left out in thee outcry.

The ASUU staff refused the money while SSANU and NASU were willing to accept the half bread rather than the chin-chin. In his wisdom, the VC Ndowa Lale called a town hall meeting on Friday (5th Feb) where he wanted to hear from all sides and give them his position in respect of the salary. At the meeting which held at Ebitimi Banigo hall in the Uni Park Abuja Campus, the VC lamented the dwindling finances of the institution due to the Federal Government's reduced funding.

He stated expressly that salaries could not be paid in full and told the Staff to adjust because the usual 24-Hour light which had made many staff and students to relocate to the on-camp residential areas and hostels would soon be stopped because buying gas to fuel the gas turbine was no longer possible.

University of Uyo and University of Calabar recorded similar complaints from the staff and the school management. Federal University of Technology, Michael Opara University of Agriculture and many other Federal schools reached were not also left unaffected by this development.

In a swift response, the Lecturers have threatened to vent their grievances through strike. A lecturer who gave His name simply as Amadi said that tampering with University allocation was unwarranted. He decried the trend stating that the government should tamper with national assemble or other ministries but allow the schools budget to stand.

However, some students reacted sharply. Joy Ezeugo a student of Philosophy department in the University of Uyo had this to say "the University should be self sustaining and in several ways be able to generate income from other sources. The students should not be made to continue suffering due to the inefficiency of our  school system.

It should be recalled that Federal Universities run Primary and secondary schools are yet to resume due to the recently called off SSANU strike seeking to compel the president to revert on his decision not to fund the secondary and primary schools anymore.
