6000 POLICE AND MOBILE POLICE TROOPS DEPLOYED TO RIVERS STATE IN WAR ZONE FASHION

The House of Assembly and Senatorial election rerun in Rivers State has generated much heat over the past few months. There have been unprovoked killings and clashes especially in Onelga, Eleme and Tai Local Government Councils. Military personal have been deployed in some of the councils to help keep the peace.

Today however IGP Solomon Arase ordered the deployment of 3 Police Commissioners and 6000 police officers and men and 14 Units of Mobile Mopolice (MOPOL) to Rivers State to forestall electoral violence and quell the imminent violence brewing from several instances of verbal exchanges and unguided statements that have been traded in the media and on social networks.

These Numbers are staggering. You want to ask is this a riot zone? Anyway if this deployment would secure the state and eliminate the blood shed on Saturday 19th March 2016 and enable voters to exercise the franchise, it is a welcome development.
