GIANNI INFANTINO: FOUR BIG LESSONS LEARNED
FIFA today elected a new man Gianni Infantino to handle the affairs of the world's highest authority in soccer after a keenly contested election that lasted for hours and entered a second round of voting.
while football lovers around the world congratulate Infantino, i would love to dig into the intrigues of the election victory and draw some lessons learned.
Anything you do, Do it well...........
Infantino was not in the race initially. He was busy doing his job loyally and faithfully as the UEFA Secretary General until the opportunity knocked as Michel Platini his Boss was suspended
The guardian describes him as a clearly competent, professional, bristling more evidently with ambition than personality. If he played with his Job he probably would not have been chosen. Some notable achievements of Infantiano include ;
The increased commercialisation and lucrative sales of TV rights for the European Championships – for national teams – and Champions League – for clubs – has been balanced by improved social programmes and backing for supporter ownership of clubs. “Financial fair play”, a somewhat toe-curling soubriquet, and not one associated with Fifa, was introduced in 2010, requiring top European clubs to staunch their losses from paying excessive players wages. Uefa claims it has turned the game’s finances around, cutting losses by 70% in its first three years.
Money is not popularity.......
This election was keenly contested between Infantino and other four aspirants. The closest rival was African Block backed, Oil rich Bahraini Prince Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa. History has it that the last time fifa election entered a second round was in 1974 (42 Years Ago). The Sheikh never thought he would lose to Gianni after all he had Africa's support. After the First Round of Voting, Gianni emerged victorious with a slim margin. The second round saw a confident Salman bin Ibrahim al-khalifa lose disappointingly.
History Plays a role...
Bahraini Prince Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa up to a few weeks ago was favoured to win the Fifa presidential seat but when the human rights/crimes against humanity issues of his past that portrayed his violent and ruthless onslaught to curb and subdue peaceful pro-democracy protesters in 2011 played up, he lost standing and sympathy among the voters. Watch your actions today, they may hunt tomorrow..
The Sins of the Fathers, Not the sins of the children......

The Sins of the Fathers, Not the sins of the children......
Integrity is key in whatever we do. The integrity and high level of professionalism displayed by Gianni the Italian-Swiss masked every negativity that the misconduct of the former fifa president Sepp Blatter would have impacted on his election. Sepp Blater's home is about Six miles away from that of Infantino. In Nigeria, we would judge the next man by his predecessor's antecedents without giving the new man a chance at trying (i am guilty of this). We could easily say 'the last time some one from such a state ruled this nation, it was immersed in corruption therefore anyone from this same state would be very corrupt. It didn't play up here. He was judged by his righteousness and not the sins of his father. Ethnicity, tribe or religious affiliation should be dropped in a quest to source for a great leader.
Congratulation Gianni Infantino I wish you the very best as you redeem the eroded image of Fifa.
